What is your first thought when someone says they are going to add some color to their home and do some painting? Do you immediately hold your breath waiting for them to say they are going say that they have picked out some blindingly bright color? It is the reaction many have when they hear that phrase. For some reason we seem to be uncomfortable or afraid of adding color to our homes.
But there are some easy ways to add color without blinding people. Think about tone-on-tone in neutral shades of gray, beige, white or green. These don't have to be super light shades either. Pick a color you adore and choose three shades of it, a light, medium and a dark shade.
Another way to add color is to paint just one wall a focal color. Or try painting just the door. Pick up a color in the rooms palette and build on that for adding some color. Imagine a door in a dark green or navy, even a shade of cranberry would be stunning.
Of course, you are expecting me to tell you to add a photo of brightly colored flowers to your decor. Yes, that would be another way to add color. But a vase of flowers, that you keep fresh every week would be a wonderful touch in the kitchen that might be done with an abundance of white.
However you choose to do it, let go of that fear of color. Add a touch to your home today!
