The photograph featured on the blog today is of Lisianthus. These are at the top of the list of my favorite flowers. In fact, they are the flowers I use in my logo. I want to share with you a little information about these flowers simply because I think it helps to know something about the photo. Especially if you are considering hanging it on your wall.
The scientific name for this flower is Eustoma. This is from two Greek words, 'eu' meaning beautiful and 'stoma' meaning mouth. I like that, Beautiful Mouth. The name Lisianthus also comes from two Greek words, 'lysis' meaning dissolution and 'anthos' meaning flower. That break down is not quite as pretty.
The petals of this flower are soft, almost sensual to the touch. It is said that this flower symbolizes appreciation. Which would make them a good flower to give in a bouquet to someone you appreciate.
They are also associated with those born under the sign of Sagittarius (Nov 22 - Dec21). Which is me! Perhaps it is fitting that I love these flowers so much.
The photograph featured above shows the flowers from a bud, in various stages of opening and as it starts to fade. Photographed on a white background this photo would be suitable to hang anywhere.
