Personally I like the word Aubergine for the color purple. It is the word used by the French, Greek and English for Eggplant. I love Eggplant so perhaps that is why I like the word. The word eggplant is also used as a color. It's use is fairly recent as the first use as a color name was in 1915.
Purple is a relatively rare color in nature. Because of this it has been seen as a sacred color. It has long been associated with royalty due to its rarity and the cost to create the dye. But technology has remove that cost so it is no longer a rare color.
Purple is the combination of the energy of red and the calm stability of blue. Which basically means that the the color has the effect of calming the nerves while uplifting the spirit. It is also a good color for encouraging creativity and imagination. It is the last color in our visible spectrum with infra-red being next. So it is also the doorway to the unseen, which is often where our imagination and creativity dwell.
Aubergine is a great color for the home. You can choose it as an accent in a room using small photos or other decor in shades of purple. Or you can try to paint a wall in a shade that appeals to you. It will lend a rich and inspiring environment to your room and home. It may no longer be a color for only the wealthy, but it will add a deep richness where ever you use it.
