I know a woman that decorates for each holiday and season. But she uses the same pieces put in the same place year after year. So her change really isn't a change. Do you decorated for all the holidays and seasons? How do your keep the expense down when changing out your seasonal decor?
Some changes need to be done and make sense. If you live in an area that has marked differences in seasonal weather you will need to change out the warm winter blankets and comforters with lighter weight ones for summer. That is a great opportunity to give a fresh look and feel to your room. Even if you live in the warmer areas there is generally some cool down for the winter that would allow you to make this change. In terms of color we seem to welcome the lighter, brighter colors in the warm seasons and the darker, more rich colored hues in the winter.
While it is fun to decorate for seasons and holidays it can be an excessive expense. If you are like my friend and have been using the same items for the past 20 years it loses its sense of freshness. If you want a change without the cost get together with your friends and family and do a decor swap. Trade decorations, wall art and photos for a season. Keep track of who has what, sort of like a lending library of decor. Decide in advance the items you would be willing to swap and keep in mind if your damage something you need to replace it. If I paid hundreds of dollars for a photo or painting I might not want to swap it out, but you can use your judgement since you will know the people you are trading with. It's a fun way to keep your decor interesting and fun without an added expense.
