I know the majority of you do not live in an active earthquake zone. But when I woke up to things shaking earlier this week I knew what I wanted to share with you. Whether or not you live in an earthquake zone, hanging your pictures and artwork safely is important.
There are wall hangers available just for this idea of hanging with safety. One way is to use picture hooks that close. If you are using an open hook then screw it into the stud so that there is just enough room to slide the framing wire between the wall and the hook. The various types of hooks are all available in local hardware stores.
No matter where you live you should always use a stud when hanging anything on your wall Not only is it stable, but it can prevent damage to your wall. If your picture or mirror is rather large or heavy it is recommended that you use two studs and two picture hangers. No on wants to have a heavy object fall off their walls, no matter the cause.
Finally secure the bottom corners with an earthquake putty or Quake-Hold. This will prevent the picture or mirror from banging against the wall and glass breaking.
That's all there is too it. Your home should be beautiful. But it should also be safe.
